Description[edit | edit source]
Standard 12v car battery.
Background[edit | edit source]
Cars require electrical power to run many of their accessories, such as the lights, stereo, auto-locking system, and the ignition system. A car's engine generates electricity while it is running, powering the vehicle. When the engine is off, the car's power is drawn from the car battery, which is recharged when the engine is running. Six voltaic cells on the lead-acid battery provide a 12-volt system sufficient enough to sustain a car, although heavy diesel trucks may have two batteries for a total of 24 volts. Because car batteries contain lead, improper disposal can result in toxic lead being leached into the environment, resulting in battery recycling centers being set up to properly handle used car batteries.
Can be removed from any car or purchased separately at an automotive parts facility.
