Scrambled eggs isn't scrambled if it isn't mixed and beaten into a goo before going into the frying pan. Eggs do not surrender easily to spoons and whisks, though, and soon a lot of elbow grease is spent on just a few eggs. Hand-cranked drills were invented for this reason to simplify the process of torturing eggs into submission, so they would be frothy enough for use in recipes that call for it.
