A small head board from a bed.
A headboard serves as the "head" of a bed, fitted behind the head of the sleepers. Headboards serve as a mini-wall to shelter occupants from cold and drafts, as well as preventing pillows from falling off the bed. Modern headboards are often padded and may have other conveniences built into them, such as bookshelves, lights, and telephones. Headboards are usually complimented with a "footboard", which is positioned at the opposite end of the bed.
The simplest of headboards are found in most beds, with more expensive beds containing all sorts of bedroom amenities.
