The MG-42, or the ''Maschinengewehr 42'', was a general purpose machine gun developed in Nazi Germany to serve Wehrmacht in 1942. It supplemented other machine guns of its time in all branches of the German Armed Forces. The MG42 was known for being reliable, simple and easy to use, but it was its very high rate of fire, and unique sound, that made it earn the ''"Hitler's buzzsaw"'' nickname. The design elements of the MG42 were used to create new weapons after Nazi Germany surrendered, such as the American [[M60-E6|M60]].

Schematics of the original model have been sighted around Union City, possibly brought by the Allies shortly after the war. Some models are still being used by the modern German army as the MG3, rechambered in 7.62x51 NATO.
