Pretty rotten, but there's room inside...
A cultivar of the squash plant, pumpkins originated in North America and sport a smooth, slightly ribbed skin and a yellowish-orange color. Pumpkins are usually eaten, but they be used for other purposes, such as Jack-o'-lantern making. Nobody is sure who came up with the idea of using pumpkins for Jack-o'-lanterns, but they have made their spot in modern culture.
Can be found in pumpkin patches from a local family farm, or in a supermarket near you.
