Background[]
A chain is a series of interconnected links, usually made out of metal or plastic. Chains are commonly envisioned to be torus-shaped links, good for lifting or securing. Lesser seen, smaller chains are used by machines to transfer power; such chains are known as "drive chains." They are most commonly used in motors, conveyor belts, and vehicles. The most obvious form of a drive chain is the chain on a bicycle, which are nickel-plated to resist rust.
