Background[]
When a fracture occurs, a portion of the bone may chip or crack away, the bone fragments will damage nearby tissue and blood vessels as well as nerves. A mishandled fracture may result in a fatal bleed, paralysis or a disability. As a rule of thumb, the fracture must be immobilized to prevent additional injury due to accidental movement or muscle spasms, thus, a splint is required. A splint is a piece of rigid material used to prevent fractured bones from moving, with splints for almost all limbs that range from a pair of blankets and duct tape to custom-made models.
Found in medical centers, orthopedists and physiotherapists offices.
