The Last Stand: Aftermath is the fifth installment in The Last Stand series. It was first teased on the Con Artist Games Twitter page,[1] and then later revealed at PAX Australia 2018.[2]
The game was officially launched on November 16, 2021, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. For PC, it is available on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store.
Description[]
You are already dead.
The infection has you. Make your last stand beyond the wall.
Find a better future for those you leave behind.[3]
Storyline[]
The game is set 15 years after the events of The Last Stand: Union City. Most of the world's population has been wiped out by the zombie apocalypse. A compound called "The End" is the last bastion of hope in Union City. However, anyone who gets infected with or exposed to the zombie virus is to be exiled, under agreement from the community that anyone who gets infected must leave the compound.
The player takes on these exiled characters (known as volunteers) who must make their last stand in the wilderness out on their own while trying to make things better for the community that they have left behind. All characters that the player takes on will eventually succumb to the infection, or perish via other means.[4]
Features[]
The game retains some of the features from previous games in the series, while adding several new ones.

Traps[]

- Shotgun Trap - A homemade trap with a rigged shotgun, shooting a spread of buckshot at close range at the trigger of a tripwire for those who are unlucky to trigger it.
- Poison Trap - There are mysterious devices placed around that apparently have growth-like substances on them. If approached, it will detonate and emit its noxious fumes, poisoning anyone caught in the cloud. It can be sabotaged with a ranged weapon to prematurely detonate it. Apparently has no effect on zombies.
- Explosive Trap - A trap rigged with improvised explosives that will alight and explode if triggered by its tripwire.
- Decrepit Awning - The City's buildings have been extensively damaged in the flooding that they may fall apart at anytime. Some of the Awning atop of the doorway are nearly falling apart and any slight creak on the doors may cause the loose concrete to crumble, smashing any unfortunate soul beneath it.
- Mine - Some mines left placed by HERC and the Military may still be intact and armed. They're triggered by living proximity and will prime to explode if disturbed. They're designed against zombies, so they have a delay timer programmed.
- Turret - There are some turrets still left online in the flame-ridden military zone from afar. There is no distinguishable programming in these turrets and it will shoot at any anything it sees, both humans and zombies alike. They cannot be disarmed, but a few placed shots can disable it.
Development[]
On October 26, 2018, a Facebook and Twitter account for the game were created,[5] though there were no official announcements about the game outside of third-party sources. The game was slated to be available for early access sometime in 2019,[4] although this was delayed into 2021.
On May 1, 2020, the game was announced to be coming to Steam.[6] The developers stated on the game's Steam page that Early Access will run through mid-2021 and that the official release date was scheduled for sometime in 2021.
On September 22, 2020, an official Kickstarter project was launched for the game.[7] The project closed one month later, on October 22, after raising $60,269 USD of their $50,000 goal with a total of 1,544 backers. Beta access is planned to be given to Patreon backers starting late November 2020, although an early access release has yet to be scheduled.
In February 2021, a demo was released as part of the Steam Game Festival[8]. The demo included several playable levels of the game.
Trivia[]
- The game was developed with the Unity engine for PC and console.[4]
