The simplest of toothpaste consists of just water, some baking soda, and a disinfectant such as hydrogen peroxide or alcohol! Most toothpaste today contains fluoride, abrasives, antibacterial agents, and some flavor to satisfy the mouth. Many toothpaste brands market themselves with "whitening agents" to remove stains from teeth, though they have not been proven to show any actual dental improvement, and may even be harmful for teeth as enamel is scraped away. Teeth naturally darken with age, and all toothpaste should do is keep the teeth clean enough to last their host until their death, and to ward off cavities and tooth decay.
Tubes of toothpaste are sold in many stores around the world, and come in a large variety of flavors and forms.
